Deki Lhazom: Bhutan's National Women's U20 Football Captain and Trailblazing Athlete

Deki Lhazom is the national women's U20 football captain who made her international debut in the U15 SAFF championship in 2017. She scored her first international goal while playing against Nepal and is the first Bhutanese woman footballer to sign with a foreign football club, Al-Ittihad, where she plays as a forward in the Saudi Women's Premier League. Deki Lhazom is a sportswoman, true athlete, and valuable game changer in every match, representing her country in several international tournaments.
After the SAFF Championship, Deki Lhazom played an International Friendly Game in Saudi Arabia where she made it extremely challenging for the Saudi Defenders to uphold her honor. She played the same manner she usually does and surprised everyone with her skills despite being physically small.

At just 18 years old, Deki Lhazom from Trashigang is the first Bhutanese woman footballer to play in a professional league in Saudi Arabia. She started playing football at the age of eight and draws inspiration from one of the best professional footballers in the world, Lionel Messi. While living in Chukha, she was not aware of women's football but has since become a trailblazer for women's sports in Bhutan.
