The Opposition Party calls upon the Government to provide full and satisfactory explanations to the nation on the causes, lapses and accountability for the recent COVID outbreak from Wangdue Phodrang.

The party is also asking the government to postpone the board examinations of classes X and XII for some weeks.

1. Outbreak of Omicron: Government to provide explanations on the cause of outbreak.
2. Classes X and XII Examinations: Postpone till the current situation improves.
3. New Mines and Mineral Regulations: Should operate within the current Act and Regulations

The Opposition Party has noted three issues of deep enticern over the last week, and wish to hereby bring them to the notice of the Government.

1. Outbreak of Omicron
The nation remains overwhelmed by the omicron outbreak causing huge economic and social disruptions to the people. We are fully mindful and deeply appreciative of the tremendous efforts made by the Government and all concerned to combat and ease the situation. However, as infectious and uncontrollable tomicron virus may be by nature, we feel the massive outbreak was preventable From the information and incidences transpared over the week, it is understood that import of forean workers without neither quarantine por antigen test through Gelephu to Punatsangchu Hydropower project size was the main cause of the outbreak. Was the outbreak caused by lapses on the part of the Government?
We call upon the Government to provide full and satisfactory explanations to the nation on the causes, lapses and accountability thereto for the outbreak

2. Classes X and XII Examinations
Despite the unfavourahir conditions at the moment due to amicron outbreak, the Government has decided to go ahead with the board examinations. We find two issues, in particular, of deep concern. First, it will cause excruciating logistical inconveniences and challenges to both the teachers and students as they are t operate in containment mode within school campuses. Second, due to late reporting back of students owing to the pandemic, some schools are reported to have not complete academic processes and thus not ready for examinations. This will affect the equity in assessment, outcomes and access to opportunities for the students
We advise the government to postpone the board examinations for some weeks

3. New Mines and Mineral Regulations
The Government, in particular the Prime Minister, had committed to resubmit the Mines and Minerals Bill to the Summer (7) Session of the Parliament In view of this, it will be neither right ner necessary to come up with new and separate by-laws on Mines and Minerals

Opposition Party urge the Government to diligently prepare and submit the new Mines and Minerals Bill to the 7 Session of National Assembly and function within the current Act and its regulations till the new Act comes into effect.
