About 10 dzongkhags continue to see new COVID-19 cases in the communities and facilities, as the nation hits one month today since the outbreak.
There were 179 positive cases reported in the last 24 hours this morning. While the local and regional taskforces are striving to manage the outbreak, heightened surveillance is being carried out across the country.
Meanwhile, everyone is requested to remain vigilant as lockdowns could come in any time, given the frequency of travels and the increasing gathering, especially in Thimphu that we are witnessing. People are urged to maintain adequate stock of essentials and be mindful of the threat that looms amid the pandemic.
A quick snapshot of the COVID-19 situation in the red and yellow districts are as follows.
1. It is encouraging to note that the pattern of positive cases in 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐮𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠 are mostly clustered or from affected communities only. The second phase of community screening started today to consider transitioning to yellow and green status of the areas. The testing will take place over next four days.
After sealing the red buildings, zone-wise movement relaxations were considered in Bajo town and extended area yesterday.
2. Different parts of 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐭𝐬𝐞 are at varying stages of lockdown based on the disease risk in the area. Gomtu, Phuntshopelri, Ugyentse and Tading are classified as red areas.
3. 𝐏𝐡𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 thromde continues to remain under red and saw a 10-day lockdown starting February 6. Mass testing to assess the situation will commence tomorrow.
4. Nganglam under 𝐏𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥 is in lockdown, with symptomatic testing being conducted at the moment.
5. While Jomotsangkha and Samdrupcholing in 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐣𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐫 are under lockdown for proper outbreak management, it is reassuring that there are no indications of widespread community cases so far. Samdrupjongkhar town is also a red zone amid heightened surveillance.
A part of Phuntshothang is coded as red, but remaining chiwogs, Pemathang, Martshalla and Samrang gewogs transitioned to green from yellow today. Other gewogs like Gomdar and Orong also transitioned to green today.
6. 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠 is progressing well. Except for the core thromde area, which sees a few sporadic cases in communities, the rest have all transited to green. The four-day mass testing ends today, which will offer clarity for the way forward.
7. 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐡𝐚 and 𝐓𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠 are yellow dzongkhags. Barp gewog in Punakha transitioned to yellow today, while Tsirang is left with the lone red village, Daragaon. We are hopeful that the dzongkhags will transition to green soon.
8. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐮 transitioned to green after securing red buildings and clusters on February 13. Upon close monitoring, some buildings and clusters have been cleared and Thimphu is left with 18 red buildings and clusters from 32, as of today.
Meanwhile, the colour code changes daily determined by the disease assessments. Transitional testings are carried out at an appropriate time to ascertain epidemiological status of districts and areas and to determine residual cases. Please follow respective Facebook pages and websites of the taskforces.
