His Majesty The King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck concluded a historic visit to Australia, leaving an indelible mark on the Bhutanese diaspora and the Australian public.
Accompanied by Her Majesty The Queen Jetsun Pema, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck, and Princess Sonam Yangden Wangchuck, the Royal Family embarked on a week-long tour from October 10th to 17th.
One of the most significant events of the visit was the Royal Audience held in Perth on October 16th and 17th at HBF Stadium. A staggering 19,000 Bhutanese gathered for the event, surprising organizers and attendees alike. On October 17th, another 6,000 people joined the audience, showcasing the enduring bond between Bhutan and its diaspora.
His Majesty expressed his astonishment at the overwhelming turnout, noting that the gathering was comparable to the national day celebrations at Changlimithang Stadium. The event served as a powerful testament to the deep affection and loyalty that Bhutanese expatriates hold for their homeland.
In his address to the audience, His Majesty emphasized the importance of creating opportunities within Bhutan, highlighting the development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) as a key initiative. The GMC, a special administrative region, aims to attract foreign investment and create jobs for Bhutanese citizens who might otherwise seek employment abroad.
His Majesty expressed hope that the GMC would encourage Bhutanese to return home and contribute to the country's development. He emphasized the need for Bhutanese to harness their skills and expertise to build a prosperous and sustainable nation.
The emotional tone of His Majesty's speech underscored the significance of this visit and the deep connection between Bhutan and its diaspora. The Royal Family's presence in Australia served as a powerful reminder of Bhutan's rich cultural heritage and the enduring spirit of its people.
As His Majesty and his family departed Australia, they left behind a lasting legacy of inspiration and hope. The visit has strengthened the bonds between Bhutan and its diaspora, reaffirming the country's commitment to building a brighter future for all its citizens.
