Three Arrested in Thimphu for Biggest Drug Seizure in Recent History

On 30th August 2023, the Narcotic Drugs and Law Enforcement Unit made a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking. Two men and a woman, aged between 26 to 29 years, were apprehended for their involvement in the illicit trafficking of drugs from Yoeselpang, Thimphu. The operation unfolded when the enforcement team intercepted a Bolero pickup truck at the Yoeselpang vegetable shed. Inside the vehicle were the driver and a woman, arousing suspicion among the officers. Acting on their instincts, a search was conducted at their residence, leading to the discovery of two cartoon boxes (equivalent to 21 packets) containing SP+ capsules hidden beneath the wooden floor. Additionally, 14 packages of SP+ were found neatly wrapped in a bedsheet inside a red laundry basket. Police in Trashigang successfully captured the suspect accused of raping a 13-year-old minor in Ritshangdung, Kanglung on August 14, at approximately 10 pm. The victim, a physically challenged child suffering from epilepsy, was assaulted by a 28-year-old man who had entered her home. Following the crime, the perpetrator had gone missing, causing distress among the local community. However, diligent police work led to the apprehension of the suspect within his vicinity in Ritshangdung between the hours of 10 pm and 4 am on August 15. Sources report that the police team faced significant challenges while apprehending the suspect, as he attempted to evade capture.
